Do you believe?

I am me.

You cannot beat me.

Only I can beat myself.

I’ve gone through hell and back and I’m still smiling… If you think you can beat me, you’re wrong. Not because I am better than you, but because I don’t compete with anyone. I am me, for better or worse. There is no one before me and no one after. I have seen the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. I have been 400 pounds and on a fast track to a heart attack by 35, depressed and ready to jump off a mountain, homeless, broke, and drinking myself to black out every single night just hoping one day I wouldn’t wake up… No matter how much shame I felt or how hopeless life was, I still found a way to move forward just one more step… just one more time… and today… today I stand before you a different person. Today I am the man that no one believed was there. I am the man that has been kicked in the face by life and somehow stood up for one more round…

Today I stand before you living my dream. Today I get to stand on stage and pass along the one gift have to give… the one piece of me the universe couldn’t take away…

I do not need to compare my personal success with others…

I do not need to have more money or attention than anyone else.

I stand before you super glued together ready to move you forward toward the future, I know is possible for you.

If you believe no one cares.

If you think no one believes in you… know this.

I care. I believe in you. I know no matter how far down you think you are, there is always a path up. I will be the first to get into the mud and start pulling you up… but I need one thing and one thing only…

I need you to reach your hand up and grab mine. I need you to show me one step forward. I need you to exert just one ounce of energy forward and I will show you how that one tiny ounce of energy can be compounded into more energy than an atomic blast.

Give me the energy.

Take the step.

Come with me as we begin to build a better future for you! The future you know deep down inside you want.

Be yourself…

And know this…

I believe in you.

Do you believe in yourself??!!

Remember: My victory isn’t crossing the finish line… My victory is taking the next step, after I want to quit.

    1. How do you motivate yourself to run in the winter? It’s hard for me, it’s cold, dark, etc.
      I have a treadmill in my basement but have lots of excuses to stay in bed. Gaining a little weight. ☹


      1. Hi Joe! Great question- my motivation comes from my goals… they pull me toward the future. How can I help you find you goals? Find your “why”? Find your motivation? I am here- how can I help you move forward??!!


    1. Yes, in a way my running is effected. I do tend to focus on recovery and strength building during the colder months. I run about 1/3 in miles during the winter but I take the time to refocus mentally and physically on what I can do to support my bigger goals. I say recovery but want to stress it’s not inactivity.

      Here is a quick exercise I use to refocus:
      Write out the answers for yourself to each.

      1. What do I want?
      2. Why do I want it?
      3. What do I have to so to get it?
      4. Who do I need to become to take the action to get my goal?

      This helps me focus on what I want, discover my “why” and motivation and get rid of an clutter that could distract me from my goals.
