The Best You Can…

Are you doing the best you can?

What a great question but how do you answer it?

Well, you either are or you aren’t… there is no gray area.

I had an extensive conversation about this question this morning and after having some time to review and reflect, I often wonder if the answer can lead to happiness or disappointment.

A common answer I get to “Are you doing the best you can?” is no… I can always do more…

Yes, you can always be doing more, but “are you doing the best you can right now?”

If progress equals happiness and disappointment is caused from the fear of missing out then is this a reason for our disappointment even when we complete our daily tasks and accomplish even our biggest goals?

Yes, we can always do more… there is no gray area… yet why don’t we do more? Why do we struggle and avoid and procrastinate on even the most important tasks and goals ahead of us?

I guess a better question might be “Do you have the confidence you are doing the best you can on the most important action right now that will inch you closer to becoming the person you need to become in order to achieve the most important goal you have set for yourself?”

Wow… that is a mouth full… but here is why the question is important.

1% growth every day focused on the most important goal you have set taken with consistency and persistence will help you preserver through the most difficult setbacks and adversities. Essentially, if you keep moving forward one step at a time, there is NO WAY you can’t reach your goal because you are always progressing and moving in the direction toward of your vision so failure isn’t even possible. (Unless you stop moving or get distracted at some point…)

“Are you doing the best you can?”

I ask myself this question every day and I honestly answer with ‘yes’ or ‘no’. If I am doing the best I can, I keep moving forward. If I am not doing the best I can, I ask myself what I can do to take a step forward in the direction of my goal.

This is where I am different. I have the courage and the confidence to answer the question ‘yes’… and I don’t think most people have the same confidence. A common answer I hear is “well… I can always be doing better.”…

Yes, I agree and if we couldn’t do better, what is the point of living?

Are you being realistic when you look at how much you are doing now compared to what you think you should be doing now? Is there a G.A.P. between where you are and where you want to be? Are you trying to rush the results rather than letting consistent action add to strategic growth plus letting father time add up in your favor?

Do you think you can cheat time? Can time be sped up? Can time be slowed down?

Can you fit a day in a minute or a year in a day?…

No, but you can fit a second in a minute… a minute in a day… a day in a week… a week in a month… a month in a year… and if you started to take the action you need to take now instead of worrying about the action you should have taken last week or have to take next month, you would learn to realize there is only one moment in time you have control of… and that time is RIGHT NOW!

So let me ask you again?

“Are you doing the best you can right now?”

If your answer is ‘no’, then what can you do right now to work yourself forward? Stop worrying about the past you can’t change and the future you can’t control. Start focusing on what you can do right now and get going… NOW!!!

Don’t be afraid to answer the question with a ‘yes’… we all have limits to our knowledge and abilities so why not do all you can with all you’ve got right now and know if you can take the step today you will be closer to your goal tomorrow with more wisdom, courage and confidence as you continue to grow into everything you want to be.

I know we all have the ability to do more… but if you are overwhelmed with what you have to do now, what good does it do you to add the stress of tomorrow onto the weight of your yesterdays. Give yourself some grace to be human and move forward today. If you do the best you can today, you will be surprised how much it adds up beyond what you thought you could do a year from now.
